What I did This was my first major Unity3D Editor tool so a lot of the functionality I had to learn and create myself. I needed to override the main scene view functionality such as mouse events, and interact with only certain kinds of GameObjects. The tool GUI was comprised of various brushes with a 2D generated texture view of each block type prefab that was able to be used to paint shapes. Various view options were also constructed such as drawing a bounding box around the group shape, a preview overlay on the closest grid spot to the mouse raycast and the ability to zoom to the selected group on selection.
Prim Block Toolcirca 2013 Unity3D game engine Editor tool created for a game project, Prim. The tool provided ability to create level design puzzles using an intuitive, "painting" method on a 2D grid in a 3D space in orthographic view, in the Unity3D scene view. The tool GUI layout was comprised of various brushes to select from, as well as a brush to erase existing blocks from a group.
